Tom Rose of the Smyrna Public Works Department said Thursday that the town has installed five new crosswalks on Front Street and will finish two final crosswalks between Wright and College Streets this week, with striping and signage to follow after roughly three weeks.
"We've installed five new crosswalks downtown," Rose said, listing locations and the remaining work. He said crews added two of the four crosswalks between Wright Street and College Street, two between Division Street and the roundabout, and one at the parking-lot entrance across from Wright Street.
Rose also reported that the contractor has completed resurfacing on several neighborhood streets, naming Bellaire Drive, Irish Place, Derby Place, Short Court, Jenkins Court and Avondale Drive. "Next they will begin milling and resurfacing Macbeth Drive and Valencia Drive," he said.
On Rock Springs Road near Waldron Road, Rose said the bridge contractor has poured new parapet walls and is preparing to mill and resurface the roadway over the bridge. "These projects are making our streets safer and smoother," he added.
For project maps and the latest timelines, Rose directed residents to the town projects page and encouraged anyone with questions to contact the Public Works Department. He thanked residents for their patience while crews complete the remaining work.
