Trustee Debbie Rentería thanks community, highlights SHAC, donations and student recognitions in farewell message

Debbie Rentería, Board Trustee for District 3, opened the meeting by congratulating students, staff and community members recognized at the May board meeting and thanking recent donors to the district. "We would also like to show our appreciation to our generous community for recent donations received this month of May. We are grateful for this support," she said.

Rentería summarized a presentation on the district’s School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), noting this year’s highlights: expanding student voice, increasing movement during the school day, and launching a new wellness survey and recognition program. She said SHAC will focus next on growing mental health supports, strengthening wellness programs, and ensuring all students have access to healthy, supportive learning environments.

In a closing set of remarks, Rentería reflected on six years of service as the trustee for Single Member District 3 and expressed gratitude to her family, board colleagues, the superintendent and district staff. "I have absolutely loved this job. I love this district. My heart has always been, and will always remain, deeply rooted in everything RISD," she said, and offered thanks in both English and Spanish to the community.
