WVU Hospitals submits lone $6 million offer for county property; commission to act next week

Monongalia County commissioners on May 6 acknowledged a single offer from West Virginia University Hospitals Inc. for a county-owned parcel the commission put up for sale April 22. County staff told the commission the bidder provided 10% earnest money to escrow and an appraisal that met the county’s condition that an offer be at least 75% of appraised value; the stated offer price is $6 million.

A hospital representative who identified himself as Mike and referenced Dr. Alsop thanked the commission for the partnership and said the property’s proximity to WVU Hospitals Ruby Children’s provides an opportunity to expand local health care services. “The property is located, as you know, very conveniently to WVU Hospitals Ruby Children’s on our campus and we have always a need to enhance the health care services we provide to our community,” the representative said.

Commissioners said they would place the offer on next week’s agenda for formal action. County staff described the administrative requirements the bidder met at the 10:00 a.m. deadline and recommended the item return for a vote after verifying the escrow and appraisal documents.

The commission’s review at the next meeting will determine whether to accept the offer, move to negotiate, or reject it. No formal sale was completed at the May 6 meeting; commissioners only noted receipt of the single compliant offer and scheduled the vote for the subsequent meeting.
