Hollis board reauthorizes enrollment committee, debates renaming for building expansion work

The Hollis School Board voted May 6 to reauthorize its enrollment committee for the 2026–27 school year effective immediately, agreeing that the committee should return any proposed changes to its mission and title for board approval at the June meeting.

The board's discussion centered on whether to rename the committee to reflect new priorities after the defeat of a bond proposal. Ann (committee lead) argued the group's work has shifted from simply ``studying increasing enrollment'' to planning for renovation and expansion needs at the primary school; she proposed language changing the charge to emphasize "fiscally responsible planning for renovating and expanding the building to ensure a safe and effective learning environment."

Don and other board members pushed back on rebranding if it narrowed the committee's remit, saying the committee should remain open to considering districtwide capacity options beyond a single building. "I don't agree with moving this to an expansion committee or limiting it down to HPS in particular," Don said, urging that the committee preserve latitude to examine alternatives.
