Committee narrows Dustel Drive safety plan to match ~$790,000 ODOT funding, directs staff to submit selected improvements

City service staff told the committee the full recommended Dustel Drive safety and resurfacing package totals about $2.596 million, including medians, raised crosswalks, intersection work and curb-ramp upgrades. The committee was told available ODOT/state safety funding would cover roughly $790,000 without additional local contribution.

The service director outlined a staged approach and recommended prioritizing the Eastfield intersection safety improvements, two raised crosswalks on the east end, and curb-ramp updates so the city could use the available state dollars without committing additional local funds. "If you add all seven of these up, the total is, 2.596 million. ... what we have left as of right now ... is around 790,000," the service director said.

After discussion about traffic speeds, emergency-vehicle access and construction contingencies, the committee moved to instruct the service director to pursue the selected components and omit the two largest raised-crosswalk elements so the package would fit ODOT funding. The committee's recommendation will be transmitted to the service director for ODOT coordination and any required council approvals.
