Cash County's Board of Equalization business at the council meeting included staff presentation and council approval of 35 annual property tax exemptions for organizations that qualify as exclusive-use religious, charitable or educational properties.
Tax administration supervisor Diana Schaefer told the council the items were largely renewals and explained why some applicants received percentage exemptions (mixed-use properties that combine nonprofit and for‑profit uses). The council approved 21 religious exemptions, 10 charitable exemptions (including percentage allocations for mixed-use properties such as Somebody's Attic and Common Ground), and four educational exemptions. Several other exemption packets remain pending and will be presented at upcoming meetings.
Why this matters: Exclusive-use exemptions affect the county's property-tax base and are reviewed annually; the council confirmed staff recommendations for properties that provided required documentation for charitable, religious or educational use.
What comes next: Staff will collect signatures and finalize exemption documentation; remaining applications will return at future meetings as indicated by staff.
