Indio council unanimously appoints Jonathan Nix as city manager at $312,000 salary

The Indio City Council unanimously approved an employment agreement appointing Jonathan Nix as the city’s next city manager, with a start date of June 13, 2026, and a first‑year base salary of $312,000.

At the meeting the city attorney delivered the required oral compensation summary: "The start date will be June 13th, 2026. For the first year of the agreement, the base salary will be $312,000 per year," the attorney said, and noted that Nix will participate in health, retirement and other management benefits on the same terms as other management employees.

Councilmembers offered congratulations and recounted Nix’s work as assistant city manager and his familiarity with city projects. Jonathan Nix thanked the council and spoke about his family and plans to continue work on the city’s strategic plan.

A motion to approve the employment agreement was made by Mayor Pro Tem Foreman and seconded by Council Member Oscar Ortiz; council voted to approve the appointment unanimously. Nix’s official first day will be June 13, 2026.
