Hood County Commissioners on May 5 unanimously appointed two county commissioners — one from Precinct 2 and one from Precinct 4 — to serve on the newly formed Hood–Somervell County Subregional Planning Commission.
The appointment follows a resolution the two counties adopted in February and aims to coordinate regional planning activities including traffic studies, public utilities, land use, water supply, sanitation and drainage. The subregional commission will also be a forum for hearings with state agencies such as the Public Utility Commission and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality when regional infrastructure matters arise.
Commissioner Samuelson moved the appointments, and Commissioner Andrews seconded the motion; the court approved the action 4–0. Court members said the commission will help Hood County voice concerns and coordinate technical review and state‑agency engagement related to large projects and shared regional issues.
The court also discussed designating a state‑level contact (a role referenced in the meeting) to help the subregional commission with state‑level coordination under Texas Local Government Code 391, and agreed to return to procedural next steps at a later meeting.
