Monroeville to seek $645,625 multimodal grant to extend sidewalks on Route 22

Monroeville council reviewed a resolution to request $645,625 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority to fund a Route 22 Revitalization Project focused on pedestrian sidewalk construction and ADA improvements.

Councilmember Mr. Graziani described the request as part of a larger, multi-year effort to repair missing sidewalk gaps along Route 22. The proposed work would extend a sidewalk built near Kohl’s and the mall bridge toward the Ford dealership area and at least to Murray Lane, improving pedestrian connections to the convention center and surrounding commercial areas. "The sidewalks of 22 have been something we've discussed for many many moons and many years," he said, calling it a long-term, multi-project effort.

The resolution was presented in the meeting packet and positioned for council support and a funding application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Next steps: staff will complete the grant application and council will consider the resolution in its legislative meeting; implementation would depend on grant award and follow-on project scheduling.
