Council approves several zoning variances and commission appointments

Springfield — During its April 21 meeting the City Council approved a slate of zoning requests and confirmed several appointments.

Docket 2026‑012 (1509 Noble Ave) granted variances to allow an existing detached garage to remain with reduced setbacks. Docket 2026‑013 (1700 S MacArthur Blvd) approved a conditional use for an ice‑cream drive‑up window and an illuminated sign variance, subject to the petitioner installing a stop sign at the drive‑through exit. Docket 2026‑014 approved a conditional permitted use for a tavern with gaming terminals at 3126 S Sixth Street limited to 861 square feet in the suite. Planning staff and the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval on these items; council votes on the zoning items were unanimous (recorded in the transcript as 9–0).

Council also approved omnibus appointments (ordinances 2026‑172 through 2026‑174) confirming William Matson and Dr. Kamau Kamayo to the Police Community Review Commission and John Herring to the Springfield Disabilities Commission.
