Board opens RFPs for granular activated carbon reactivation; responses due for June review

The Board of Public Works opened requests for proposals for granular activated carbon (GAC) segregated reactivation at its May 5 meeting. Staff said the board would open the proposals and review them before returning recommendations to the Water Utility Commission in June for final approval.

Staff read the three proposals received: Carbon Activated Corporation (California), Norit Activated Carbon and Calgon Carbon. No award or contract decision was made; staff said the proposals would be reviewed and returned to the Water Utility Commission for final action.

The board did not vote on awards at the meeting and no dollar amounts or technical selection criteria were stated on the record. The board will consider those details when staff brings the results back to the Water Utility Commission in June.
