The Village of Villa Park’s board of trustees on April 13 approved a package of administrative and capital items, including commissioner appointments, a police‑station HVAC repair, a travel‑policy update, a state‑highway permit authorization and a temporary commemorative village flag.
Appointments and consent agenda
The board unanimously appointed William "Bill" Zucker to the Board of Fire and Police Commission (to fill an unexpired term through April 30, 2027) and Jennifer Hamilton to the Green Commission. The consent agenda — including bill listings and minutes — was approved by roll call.
Police‑station HVAC
Trustees approved a resolution authorizing replacement of the HVAC controls at the Villa Park Police Department at a cost not to exceed $43,756. Staff said the work is charged to the capital improvement fund (line item 1120254102), which is funded by a year‑end transfer from the general fund; staff and trustees agreed to monitor capital expenditures to stay within the $2,315,000 budgeted for improvements.
Travel policy
The board amended its travel‑expense reimbursement policy to simplify approval steps required under the Local Government Travel Expense Control Act. HR Manager Dan McCann explained that typical travel involving hotel or out‑of‑state attendance requires department head and manager sign‑off and that registration or hotel costs are estimated up front and reconciled on reimbursement.
Commemorative flag
The board approved a temporary commemorative design to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Trustees discussed producing a set of flags for multiple village locations, offering resident purchase links, and showing a signed commemorative banner in the July 4 parade; Manager Rivas said the design will be flown at village‑owned properties through the end of the year.
What’s next: Staff will implement contracts and administrative changes consistent with the adopted resolutions and monitor capital expenditures and website updates as requested by trustees.
