The Westville Town Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 20264, which authorizes the clerk-treasurer to use the remaining balance in the Protect Our Children donation fund (Fund 2301) — listed in the ordinance as $1,410.12 — for park improvements and then to close the fund.
Clerk/ordinance text: The ordinance recites the fund’s original purpose (to receive restricted donations for a shelter at Prairie Meadow Park and related maintenance costs) and directs the clerk-treasurer to expend the remaining $1,410.12 for park improvements and then close the fund when the balance is exhausted. Council moved, suspended the rules and adopted the ordinance by a 5-0 roll-call vote.
During other business, staff updated the council on utilities and the town’s water project. The utilities/police presenter said crews have started work on the water tower located on state/correctional property and were drilling piers to stabilize the foundation; equipment has been relocated from the water plant in preparation for new construction. Finance staff (Nathan) reported that water audits will finish this month, that it makes sense to wait to replace plant meters until new meters arrive within about a year, and that a CAT generator installation at the plant is complete.
A resident asked whether the fire hydrant by his house would be replaced; staff replied the main through that area will be replaced and that work will likely involve yard disturbance and installation of new looped lines and hydrants, with meter pits and shutoff valves considered as part of the work.
Other items noted: a council member proposed refurbishing and hanging an old wooden depot sign reading "Westville" in the meeting room, and a council member summarized a fire board meeting report (rescue truck engine replacement is in Lafayette; the department plans a junior fire league). Two South Central students attended and were welcomed by council members.
With no further business, the council adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
