The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners on May 14 approved several items on its regular and consent agendas, including a $925,000 purchase agreement to acquire property intended to support county animal shelter operations, a resolution vacating a portion of unimproved right-of-way in Whitewater Township, and final assessments from Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) projects.
County administrator Jeff Alito presented Resolution No. 5, which authorizes a purchase agreement for property at 3949 Colrain Avenue for $925,000. The administration recommended the acquisition to move the animal shelter from a leased facility to an owned property, which officials said would provide a faster return on investment when accounting for purchase price and future ancillary sales. President Stephanie Summer O'Dumas moved to adopt the item and commissioners voted to approve the purchase.
The board also approved an engineer-recommended resolution vacating a portion of unimproved right-of-way for Mound Drive in Whitewater Township. The engineer told the board that a hearing was held April 23, the survey plat and legal description were acceptable, and the office recommended approval.
MSD staff presented the 2026 final assessments for five completed sewer projects that benefit 21 properties. Most properties will be assessed the standard $12,000; three properties qualified for HSTS credit, reducing two assessments to $8,400 and one to $6,200. Owners may pay the assessment upfront, or through property tax installments over 20 years (40 semiannual payments). The board moved and adopted the assessments.
The consent agenda (items 4–16) passed unanimously and included: a $2.8 million state grant allocated to a seven-county regional mobile crisis support initiative (with the Mental Health Recovery Services Board as fiscal agent), contract renewals and bid awards for JFS, a zoning map amendment for the Racetrack case (Harrison 2026-01), a Recovery Ohio Major Drug Interdiction grant for the sheriff's office, and personnel policy updates among other routine items.
