Committee reports at the April 13 meeting covered personnel, closures for community events, parks maintenance and utility operations.
A Board of Works & Safety representative reported the board extended a conditional offer to Javen Stocker, described as about 25 and formerly at the Howard County Youth Correctional Facility, as a potential new member of the police department. The report said an interview occurred earlier that morning.
The board also approved three alley closures, including one for the Tippecanoe County Library's summer kickoff on July 6 and a street closure for the school corporation on May 9 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; the board discussed a potential more extensive closure near Madison for demolition work.
Park board updates noted the downtown flower-watering position was filled, fencing for ball diamonds was installed, golf cart signs for trails have arrived, and the swimming pool is expected to open May 23 and run through Aug. 8 with the splash pad to remain open afterwards. Utility board members praised the electric department for storm-response work.
