The Preston County Board of Education took several routine actions at its Jan. 28 meeting.
The board approved the meeting agenda and later approved the Jan. 12 meeting minutes (chair called the vote and the clerk announced the motion passed). The service personnel agenda passed; included in that action was approval of a four‑year, grant‑funded cooking position to provide dinner meals for students attending an evening Knights Academy tutoring program and for evening student-athletes. Presenters said reimbursements tied to the 21st Century grant will offset the position during the grant term.
The professional personnel agenda also passed; the board approved hiring for supplemental coaching positions and discussed combining boys and girls track duties under one posted position, with supplemental pay adjustments to follow. The board voted to enter an electronic executive session to discuss legal and personnel matters; Mr. Martin later told the board no action was taken while in executive session.
The board approved an out‑of‑state field trip for Central Preston band to travel to Pittsburgh on May 15–16, 2026, to attend a clinic and a parks band competition, with local booster funding covering trip costs. The board also approved a request to allow Brewon School athletes to practice at the Little Sandy Church Gymnasium when district facilities are unavailable.
No formal policy changes were made; votes recorded in the public proceedings were for agenda, minutes and routine personnel and event approvals.
