The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on April 21 approved a series of routine consent‑agenda items and awarded multiple road‑work contracts, recording unanimous 'Aye' votes from Commissioners Moore, Gallagher and Riddell.
Among the actions, the board awarded an unterm contract to Erie Blacktop Inc., Sandusky, for the North Ridge Road resurfacing project in Sheffield Township for $251,959.80. Funding for that work includes Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) money of $186,450.25 and a local share of $65,509.55 from the permissive engineer project account. Work is to be completed on or before Oct. 31, 2026.
The board also awarded a $2,590,934.75 contract to Kokosing Construction, Elyria, for resurfacing and widening Pyle South Amherst Road in New Russia Township. Funding is listed as NOACA through the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) $1,778,415; OPWC $485,024; and a local share of $327,495.75 from permissive engineer project fees. Staff said the larger scope and drainage/widening work likely reduced the number of bidders for the job.
A consulting services agreement with Quality Control Inspection for construction administration, inspection and testing for the Pyle project was approved at $134,907, with 80% ($107,925.60) from the permissive engineer project account and the remainder from OPWC.
County staff framed the awards as leveraging multiple funding sources to get the most local benefit. The board recorded aye votes for the consent agenda and each contract; staff will issue notices to proceed once contracts are fully executed.
