At the April 20 meeting, trustees reviewed a set of policy and regulation updates covering registration, staff online conduct, attendance and technology use.
A presenter described minor updates to the JR registration policy and said the review removed outdated language. On staff online conduct, the board considered a regulation clarifying that social-media posts by employees can have the same effect as spoken statements and that direct staff–student communication on personal platforms should be restricted. The presenter said Mr. Evans is developing a universal app for athletics to standardize messaging across teams to avoid inconsistent communication channels.
The board also reviewed the GBEG attendance regulation and found no substantive updates were required at this time. Trustees flagged ongoing policy review progress: the district has reviewed many policies and is roughly a quarter of the way through what may be hundreds of items. The presenter noted an upcoming state requirement related to cell phones (SB160) and that the district is preparing a model policy to comply.
Several policies (internet policy, weapons and school policy and others) were presented as second readings and called for votes. Where second readings were held, the board proceeded with motions and votes under standard procedures.
Staff will return these items as required by the review timeline, and the board will expect additional detail on implementation of the athletics communication tool and the formal cell-phone policy once state guidance is finalized.
