Franklin Area SD spotlights student FBLA wins and reviews service agreements for curriculum and student supports

Board members recognized athletic director Becky Barnes for a regional award and heard a presentation from the high school’s FBLA advisor highlighting that 52 students attended the state leadership conference, with several top‑10 finishes and one student qualifying for nationals.

Casey Miller and FBLA advisor Matt Gustoson described the program’s expansion (about 105 members) and the community fundraising that supported student travel. Students and advisors emphasized the program’s value for college and career exposure.

Separately, staff presented two service agreements for board consideration: one with Novak Educational Consulting, Inc. for virtual and in‑person universal design for learning professional development (costs to be included in the 2026–27 curriculum/instruction budget), and one with PAES Productions LLC to establish a Practical Assessment Exploration System lab at an upfront cost of $39,875 and a five‑year annual renewal of $5,000, funded by the medical access grant. Board discussion described the PAES lab as a way to reduce travel to off‑site labs and to provide daily access for students who benefit from hands‑on skill stations.
