The recreation coordinator reported that the council approved new pool hours and a fee schedule for 2026 and outlined staffing and repair updates.
The coordinator told the council the 2026 schedule will run May 30 through Aug. 9 with lap swim and aerobics from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., priced at $4 per person. Public swim hours are set for 12–7 p.m. daily; pool parties are scheduled 7–9 p.m. and will cost about $200–$250 for two hours. Senior passes are $30 per month, and daily admission is $4 per person, with wristbands allowing re-entry, the coordinator said.
Why it matters: The fee and schedule changes are intended to sustain pool operations and support an extended season while keeping programs accessible, officials said.
In presenting the update, the recreation coordinator described ongoing repairs at the pool and nearby fields. Staff completed crack and joint repairs and replaced laterals in the pump house; additional work is pending delivery of a liner and other components. The coordinator said a drinking-fountain station has been ordered, an AED and first-aid cabinet have arrived, and bilingual signage will be installed to improve accessibility and safety.
On staffing, the coordinator said, “We have 8 lifeguards right now. Officially, 8,” and added that several staff are recertifying this week and one former employee is expected to reapply. She said the department’s proposal targets 10 lifeguards for the season and noted the town had 14 last year. The coordinator also said one lifeguard can safely supervise roughly 20–25 swimmers and that she expects to be on-site or on-call most days for the season.
The coordinator cautioned that, despite repair progress, staff cannot yet confirm whether the pool will open by Memorial Day weekend and that updates will be provided as work concludes.
The update also covered park improvements and fund-raising: sidewalk work at the ballfield is complete; the batting cage is finished; the town will receive up to 10 rolls of artificial turf from the school district for use at the pool and parks; and a proposed community mural at the pool is seeking sponsorship. The coordinator said she has solicited quotes from local contractors and that estimated mural costs are between $12,000 and $15,000. She noted the community’s recent Sunshine House Color Run used Coconut Park and raised about $400 for that organization.
The council approved the recreation coordinator’s pool hours and fee proposal for 2026 during the meeting. The meeting record shows a prior, separate motion to approve minutes from the April 8 meeting was moved, seconded and carried earlier in the session.
The meeting adjourned at 5:56 p.m.
