May River High senior urges board to address severe dismissal traffic, warns of emergency response delays

Andy Moriceette, a senior at May River High School, told the Beaufort County School District Board of Education during the March 3 public comment period that traffic congestion at May River poses a safety and access risk.

"Every day on my way to school, I'm stopped dead around a mile and a half away from the school. It's a constant line of stop‑and‑go traffic, never exceeding 15 mph," Moriceette said, describing dismissal times that can exceed 40 minutes for some students. He said the school has a single parent/student entrance that creates a choke point and that traffic is expected to worsen with an additional elementary school in the area.

Moriceette proposed extending a cut‑through road between the school's football and baseball fields out to New River Road, saying it would require only modest paving and clearing.
