Apache Junction council unanimously approves consent agenda; Google Fiber agreement authorized

The City of Apache Junction council approved its consent agenda by unanimous roll call at the March 3 meeting, including language that authorizes the mayor to sign an agreement between the city and Google Fiber Arizona LLC.

A motion to approve the consent agenda "and that authorization be granted to the mayor to sign the agreement between the city of Apache Junction and Google Fiber Arizona LLC" was moved and seconded and then approved with all council members voting yes.

During public hearings staff presented resolution 2604, an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between Apache Junction and Gila County designed to coordinate Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application cycles through the Central Arizona Governments (CAG). Jeremy Johnson, the city’s grants manager, said alternating application years allows one jurisdiction to apply for a combined allocation in a single year, increasing the competitiveness of the request. Johnson told council that the paired allocation for fiscal year 2025 was about $156,000 (combined) and that the IGA term under consideration is two years. The resolution was presented for discussion and will be placed on the next consent agenda for formal approval.

No objections to the consent agenda were raised in that portion of the meeting; the council also approved moving one agenda item (Item 5) to the March 17 meeting.

The council did not adopt the CDBG intergovernmental agreement on March 3; staff will return the resolution with final IGA language on the next consent agenda.
