Madison City Park Board honors outgoing commissioner Phil Kaine

Mayor opened the meeting by presenting a certificate of appreciation to outgoing park commissioner Phil Kaine, praising Kaine’s leadership on eight completed or renovated parks and ongoing projects that include the Crystal Beach Aquatic Park, Riverfront Super Overlook, Gateway Park and the Malberry Arts Corridor.

"We believe parks and the quality of life that it offers the residents and visitors of Madison, Indiana are vital," the mayor said, listing recent accomplishments and saying plans under consideration would deliver roughly eight more park revitalizations in coming years. The mayor invited community members to visit the Madison Handover Connector Trail and highlighted connectivity to Clifty Falls State Park.

Kaine gave brief departing remarks, thanking board members and staff for their support and saying he was proud to have been part of the work. "I'm just glad I could be a part of it," Kaine said.

The board took a photo and presented a small reception; a short celebration and informal remarks followed before the agenda moved on to routine business.
