Commission approves rezoning for convenience store and gas station at Good Hope Road and bypass

Walton County commissioners approved a rezoning to allow a convenience store with fuel pumps, retail and a restaurant on a five‑acre corner parcel at Good Hope Road and the county’s new bypass.

Attorney Andrea Gray, representing applicant Nikhil Agarwal, said the property is in an employment‑center character area and that the planned development anticipates dual access points — a right‑in/right‑out on the bypass and a full‑service entrance off Good Hope Road — that would require infrastructure improvements the applicant would fund. Because the site lies outside city sewer limits, the conceptual plan relies on an on‑site septic field and on‑site stormwater management.

Gray said the proposal is consistent with the future land‑use plan and the planning commission recommended unanimous approval. Commissioners asked about sewer availability and entrance locations; Gray said the applicant had coordinated with GDOT and would place entrances as far from the intersection as possible and undertake required road improvements.

The board moved and approved the rezoning, with the applicant and staff to coordinate required traffic and utility improvements before construction permits are issued.

Next steps: Applicant will finalize engineering, coordinate with GDOT and apply for required permits and any site‑level approvals.
