The Palm Beach County Board approved an agreement establishing a countywide internship program with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) during its March 26 meeting.
Human Resources staff described the agreement as creating a countywide internship program to place multiple interns across county departments and divisions where appropriate. "The agreement before you is for a countywide internship program with FAU where we will be able to take multiple interns throughout the county and every department and division where we find a link," staff said during the presentation.
Vice Mayor Marci Woodward moved approval of items 5D1 A, B and C; Commissioner Joel Flores seconded the motion. The board voted to approve the items; the transcript records the motion carrying.
Why it matters: The memorandum of understanding (MOU) or agreement formalizes a pathway for FAU students to serve as interns in county government, which the board and university officials framed as a workforce development measure and as a way to connect academic programs to county operations.
Next steps: County human resources and FAU representatives will implement the internship placements across departments as described in the agreement and follow county hiring/placement procedures for interns.
