Board approves RFP award for licensed unarmed guard services to supplement in‑house security

The Springs Union Free School District on March 10 approved business items that included awarding a request for proposal for licensed uniform unarmed guard services to Pond view services, the administration said.

Administration described the contract as a supplement to existing in‑house security staff rather than a wholesale replacement. The vendor will provide exterior patrols of district grounds, a vehicle for patrolling, substitute coverage when in‑house guards are unavailable and seven‑day coverage for events or after‑hours concerns.

Officials said the vendor’s proposal came in as the best match to needs and should be less costly than hiring additional full‑time security employees because it avoids adding guaranteed regular hours. When asked by the public about the expected annual cost, administration said a needs assessment with the vendor is pending and that final costs will depend on the hourly schedule; agenda materials referenced a $55/hour rate but no firm annual total had been confirmed by the board at the meeting.

The board approved business items 51–58, which included this RFP award; the motion carried without a roll‑call tally disclosed in the meeting minutes.
