Nashoba committee to consider authorizing superintendent to negotiate solar contract for new high school

At a March 11 meeting, a subcommittee told the Nashoba Regional School District school committee that solar proposals for the new high school are advancing and that the school building committee may recommend authorizing the superintendent to enter contract negotiations.

Committee members clarified the distinction between authorizing negotiations and approving a final contract. One committee member corrected an earlier expectation that the committee would approve a contract in March, noting instead that the likely action would be authorization to negotiate, with a negotiated contract scheduled to return to the committee for deliberation and possible approval in April or May. Legal counsel (Mr. Moar) confirmed that a final agreement would be with the school committee and protections are in place so the committee can fully deliberate contract terms before execution.

Committee members discussed process timing (possible April 8, April 29, or later dates) and a two-reading approach so that committee members have time to review negotiated terms before a final vote. The administration said the contract would be presented for full committee consideration after negotiations are complete and recommended timelines would allow review before formal approval.

No contract was approved at the March 11 meeting; members were briefed on the anticipated steps and schedule for negotiations and review.
