After returning from closed session, the Northeast Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to uphold the administration’s level 4 parent and student grievance and attached five stipulations to the board’s action.
The motion to uphold the administration's grievance included five stipulations that the board recorded into the public motion: (1) the administration must provide the board and affected families a summary of pending open-records requests and indicate what records remain available; (2) the administration must immediately evaluate compensatory services and determine what is needed and appropriate; (3) administration will review all existing policies and procedures for the AMP program related to student and parent conduct; (4) provide training to the school and the AMP program on proper reporting procedures, documentation and retention policies; and (5) ensure stay-away and safety plans are reviewed and enforced.
The motion was seconded and carried on roll call. Two trustees—one who stated, "Not having sufficient time to prepare or go through the case, I'm going to abstain," and another who said she likewise had not received information prior to the meeting—recorded abstentions. The chair recorded the motion as passing with five ayes and two abstentions; board minutes show the stipulations will be followed up by administration as specified.
The board said the action was taken pursuant to Texas Government Code provisions governing grievance matters and closed-session deliberations. No additional disciplinary or personnel details were disclosed in open session.
