At the April 16 Temple City council meeting, public speakers used the comment period to raise safety and property concerns.
Bruce McKen, a resident for 48 years, told council members his wife recently encountered a man in a women's restroom behind City Hall and said he calls the city frequently about illegal dumping in alleys near his home. "My wife wanted to use the restrooms the other day and there was a gentleman in the lady's restroom," McKen said, asking the city to look into restroom access and related concerns.
McKen also said he had heard from neighbors about break-ins in his area and voiced appreciation for a city-planted tree near his home and for outreach from city support staff.
Later in the public-comment period, a speaker identified as Miss Ley said several valuable items including jewelry and passports had been stolen from her home and that she had filed reports with the sheriff's department. "I'm very worried about that information," she said, and asked city officials and police for help recovering the items.
Mayor Chavez and staff acknowledged the comments; the city manager said staff would look into the matters raised by McKen and the clerk/attending staff encouraged Miss Ley to stay at the podium so officials could follow up.
These comments are part of the informal public-comment record and did not result in formal action at the meeting.
