Board approves summer street closures for library kickoff and Books & Bluegrass concert

At its April 13 meeting, the Board of Public Works approved two event-related street closures: the County Public Library’s summer reading kickoff and a school National Honor Society 'Books and Bluegrass' concert.

Library representatives requested closing the street from Independence to the alley for the library’s annual kickoff on July 6 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Staff told the board all department heads had signed off on the request. A board member moved to approve the closure and the motion passed by voice vote.

Rob Cochran spoke for the school National Honor Society’s request to close the street for its 'Books and Bluegrass' event on May 9 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cochran said the event will feature a headline act and a warm-up band, three food trucks and that the county had closed a parking lot for safety. Department heads had also approved that request, and the board approved the closure by voice vote.

Both approvals were routine and included standard safety coordination by staff and public-works sign-off; no permits, fees or special conditions beyond departments’ signoffs were reported at the meeting. The board recorded the motions and carried both votes by voice.
