Commissioners approve renewals for Co-Occurring Grant-funded peer support and sober housing contracts

The Codington County Board of Commissioners voted to approve renewals of two contracts funded by a Co-Occurring Grant, approving continued peer support services with Face It Together and sober housing with Brothers and Sisters Behind Bars.

The community service director told commissioners these are pass-through agreements with no direct county cost and said the underlying grant is a three-year award with a possibility that funds could last a fourth year. For the community health worker reimbursement program the director reported $1,229 in Medicaid reimbursement billed in March and a separate grant reimbursement of $3,067.16, saying the program is "getting close to closer to the $5,000 a month" in CHW service reimbursements.

Commissioner Schwieters moved to approve the Face It Together renewal; Commissioner Johnson seconded the motion. Commissioners noted the contract is a continuation of last year's agreement required for Department of Justice reporting. The motion carried with no recorded opposition. On the Brothers and Sisters Behind Bars sober housing renewal, Commissioner Johnson moved and Commissioner Schwieters seconded; that motion also carried.

The approvals were recorded as routine contract renewals using Co-Occurring Grant funds and do not increase county spending because the agreements function as pass-through payments to the providers. The board did not record any additional conditions or amendments to the contracts during the meeting.

The commissioners moved on to other business after the votes; there was no further public discussion of the two contracts at the meeting.
