Planning commission recommends conditional approval for 14 storage units at 920 Glasgow Street

The council reviewed a land-development plan proposing 14 commercial storage units on about 1.3 acres at 920 Glasgow Street. The planning commission recommended conditional preliminary/final approval and granted two requested waivers, including combined approval and a waiver related to street trees.

Developer representative Chad Martin answered council questions about a wooden fence already installed on the site. A councilor said the fence had required permits and expressed concerns about long‑term maintenance after citing nearby examples of unmaintained fences; Martin said the fence meets zoning and permit requirements and that the developer plans regular maintenance, including treatment every two years.

On dimensions, Martin said the units have an eave height of about 16 feet and a peak of about 18 feet and that the wooden stockade fence is six feet high in required locations. He noted the project removed over 100 tons of trash from the site and will support small businesses by providing affordable storage options.

The item will be listed for action on Monday's regular council agenda with planning commission recommendations and waiver documentation included in the packet.
