Committee backs recommendation to pursue consistent monument signs at elementary schools and district office

Staff proposed installing monument-style externally illuminated signs at Rockfield Elementary, County Line Elementary, Amy Bell Elementary and the district office to create a consistent district brand. The recommended design would replicate the MacArthur Elementary/Germantown High School aesthetic rather than the small, dated wooden signs at some locations.

Staff told the committee they had received preliminary vendor pricing in a range that could put the total for multiple signs in the ballpark of $80,000–$120,000, and that per-sign estimates could be roughly $15,000–$20,000 depending on size and features. Committee members cautioned that the village’s planning commission must approve monument signs, there are size and footing requirements, and that different municipalities (e.g., the village or a neighboring jurisdiction) may have different sign ordinances and waiver processes.

One committee member suggested considering an electronic scroll option (a changeable message board) to display event information, but staff said that consistency and village size limits weighed toward a static monument design for the elementary sites. The committee voted to forward a positive recommendation to the finance committee; the motion carried with one recorded opposition.
