Committee recommends purchase of Bridges version three transition kits; sends positive recommendation to finance committee

The Germantown School District Teaching and Learning Committee voted to forward a positive recommendation to the finance committee to purchase Bridges third-edition transition kits for elementary math. Jeff moved the recommendation and Tracy Pollock seconded; the chair called a voice vote and the motion passed.

Staff described the transition kits as targeted updates rather than a wholesale curriculum replacement: teachers receive new binders for Bridges and Number Corner, embedded learning goals for each unit, preassessments and screeners, improved formative-assessment tools, and "concept quests" designed as extension or differentiation activities. Jake Nuzak said the updates are intended to keep the classroom experience coherent with prior practice while providing clearer learning targets and extension options.

On cost, staff characterized the purchase as roughly $500 per classroom and cited an estimated district total of about $35,600; they noted the total could change if the district adds sections (for example, an additional kindergarten section would require purchasing one more $500 kit). Staff also said version three should be usable for seven or more years and that the math center will continue to support version two if the district delays transition.

Committee members said teachers had access to previews of the updated materials and had seen sample activities via the district’s curriculum review teams and an outside consultant from CISS/CIS 6; that exposure informed staff judgment that now is an appropriate time to transition. Jeff moved a positive recommendation to the finance committee; Tracy seconded. The committee approved the motion by voice vote, and staff will present the recommendation to the finance committee for formal procurement approval.
