La Canada Unified’s State of the District showcased student performances and extracurricular achievements alongside administrative reports.
Principals and program leads presented arts and athletics highlights: the LCHS band, orchestra and color guard performed internationally and locally; chamber singers and multiple elementary choirs performed during the program. The district also presented theatrical excerpts from the La Canada Playhouse and a sixth-grade musical.
Dr Jared Gold and Jim Cardinal described expanded student supports and extracurricular offerings, including a wellness center and office hours at middle and high school. Assistant Principal Adam Almeida highlighted STEM achievements, including the high school engineering club’s “international sustainability award” won at a Houston competition. Jim Cardinal also noted strong outcomes: a 99% graduation rate, with 95% of those graduates pursuing further education.
Student London Nimic performed a winning Frederick Douglass oratory selection as a featured program moment, and several student ensembles—string quartet and advanced orchestra—performed classical selections.
Administrators used the performances as evidence of broad student engagement across arts, athletics and STEM, and thanked families and community partners for ongoing support.
