County staff flag contractor and architect coordination problems on courthouse renovation

County staff updated Wichita County commissioners on ongoing courthouse renovation work and raised concerns about contractor execution and coordination with the county's architect.

Mark and Mickey briefed the commission that certain roof components and roof-line assemblies on building B did not match the design intent; staff said they reviewed plans with the contractor and then reviewed the issues with the county's architect, who agreed with the staff's concerns and will provide follow-up. Mark said the slab at a demolition site has been removed and that general site cleanup is progressing.

Staff described a process of returning the contractor to the architect for clarification. Mark said he had taken the contractor to the county's architect to resolve the issue and was waiting for an answer. No change orders, contract approvals or final acceptance actions were taken during the meeting; commissioners directed staff to continue coordination with the architect and report back.

The briefing covered both the main courthouse and an annex project and included discussion of staging, material deliveries and the schedule. Commissioners did not vote on any contract actions in this session.
