The Mount Clemens City Commission approved several routine business items including two inspection contracts, the naming of a kayak launch and the consent agenda.
The commission voted to approve a one-year contract with Matthew M. Burman to serve as building official and provide mechanical inspection services under a contract effective July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, at an annual fee of $68,000. Commissioners asked that the contractor consider offering some evening and Saturday hours to improve accessibility for residents seeking inspections.
The body also approved a one-year contract with Michael L. Faren for rental inspection services at an annual fee of $48,000, effective the same dates. Commissioners asked staff to encourage evening and weekend availability to make inspections more convenient for people who work during regular business hours.
On a separate motion, the commission approved a request from the Mount Clemens Rotary Club to name the new MacArthur Park kayak launch the "Neil E. Dempsey Memorial kayak launch" as a tribute to the late club president and community volunteer; Mayor Dempsey abstained from that vote. The consent agenda, purchases and payment of invoices were approved by roll call.
Roll-call tallies were recorded on the transcript for each vote; the contracts and naming motion carried with the majorities shown in the public record. The commission also approved minutes from the May 20, 2019 meeting before proceeding to other business.
