Mount Clemens approves McLaren 'Let’s Move' race with required insurance and notice

The Mount Clemens City Commission approved the McLaren Let’s Move Festival of Racing for Saturday, April 28, 2018, authorizing the event with necessary road closures and conditions coordinated with the Department of Public Services and public safety agencies.

According to staff, East Side Racing Company is organizing the event, which will include a half marathon, 10K, 5K and one‑mile fun run. The races are planned to start on a northbound route and finish on Market Street, with 10K runners bused to Lake St. Clair Metropark for part of the route. After‑race activities are planned near Buffalo Wild Wings and an adjacent parking area and the county parcel where a parking structure once stood.

Approval was contingent on the organizer providing a certificate of liability insurance naming the city as an additional insured and on notifying all residences and businesses along the race routes of the impending road closures. Staff indicated closures would be similar to last year’s configuration and that route logistics and timing would be coordinated with public safety.

The motion to approve the event passed by roll call.
