Eagle Scout Ronnie Walman presented a paper-product drive and a check for $514.79 to Turning Point Mount Clemens during the city commission meeting, telling the commission he chose the project to help women and children who often arrive at shelters without basic necessities.
"This check is for $514 and 79," Walman said as he handed the donation to Turning Point representative Karen, who accepted the gift on the organization’s behalf and told the commission much of the donation came from Mount Clemens neighbors who responded to the drive. Mayor Dempsey and multiple commissioners publicly commended Walman for completing his Eagle Scout project.
Why it matters: Turning Point serves women and children leaving unsafe homes; the donation provides toiletries and paper products typically needed by families arriving with little more than the clothes they were wearing. The ceremony also served as a community recognition moment at the commission meeting.
What’s next: Commissioners congratulated Walman and invited him to future recognition events; Turning Point acknowledged receipt of the donation. No formal action was required or taken by the commission regarding the donation.
