The Mount Clemens City Commission on Jan. 17 approved a three‑year extension of the city’s downtown and Shady Side Park street‑sweeping contract with LK Aler d/b/a Champion Power Sweeping.
Administration asked the commission to extend the existing agreement through March 4, 2020, at a cost of $31,900 per season. The motion passed on a roll‑call vote.
Commissioner Mener asked for clarification about which streets and areas the contract covers and what “sweeping and vacuuming” includes. Administration responded that the original bid package (awarded in 2012) spells out the scope: full widths of sidewalks, gutters and curb lines, alley behind Cherry Street Mall, flower beds and trees, Rotary Park, parking lots (Rcop, New Street and market lots), and Shady Side Park. The package also lists frequencies (generally five days a week on specified days) and a 30‑day termination provision.
The contract amendment maintains current pricing and requires the contractor to meet the detailed responsibilities in the bid packet. The commission approved the extension by roll call: Hill, Mener, Bunton, Campbell, Dempsey, Ford — all recorded as voting yes.
The extension takes effect March 5, 2017. Administration said the contract has been amended once previously to reduce price and that Champion has not increased rates since the earlier amendment.
