The city opened a public hearing on the reallocation of $59,633 in Community Development Block Grant funds originally approved for Memorial Park but later deemed ineligible by the county. City staff read the allocation and explained that, because the county found much of the Memorial Park project ineligible, the commission is seeking public input to determine alternative eligible uses within the city.
Staff outlined eligible program categories for CDBG dollars, including park improvements, acquisition of property, housing rehabilitation, ADA accessibility work, demolition and other public facilities; they advised that street repairs are generally ineligible under the program without specific county approval. Residents asked whether the full allocation would be available for a single project or could be split among several projects; staff responded that allocations depend on the projects the commission selects and county approval requirements.
No formal reallocation decision was made during the hearing. The commission closed the public hearing after receiving comments and directed staff to compile input and return with project options for commission consideration. The process will require County approval for selected uses before funds can be spent.
