Mount Clemens swears in new firefighters, promotes two officers

The Mount Clemens City Commission opened its meeting by swearing in new and promoted members of the Mount Clemens Fire Department and presenting certificates of recognition. Firefighter Alex Zachow, who has served as a volunteer since March 2008 and became a full-time firefighter on Aug. 3, 2016, recited the oath of office administered by the interim city manager.

Lieutenant Nicholas Candela, a member of the department since October 2003, was sworn in and recognized for his promotion effective Aug. 12, 2016. The commission also presented a certificate to Captain Richard Daosin, who joined the department in June 2001, was promoted to sergeant in October 2008 and was promoted again to captain effective Aug. 7, 2016. Mayor Barb Dempsey presented the certificates on behalf of the commission.

The oaths were taken in open session with family and colleagues present and drew applause from commissioners and attendees. Commissioners and the mayor thanked the firefighters for their service to the community.

The commission then recessed briefly before moving on to the remainder of the agenda.
