Rob Shultz, the airport CFO, briefed the committee on a proposed joint resolution that would authorize the Airport Board to acquire a roughly 5.4-acre parcel on the west side of the runway near 59th Avenue and Hayford Road.
Shultz explained the acquisition rationale: keeping the airport approach/departure area clear of structures for public safety, respecting noise-contour considerations (noting the 65 dB contour on the property), and preserving land potentially needed for future airport operations (including transload and a possible third runway alignment). He said a portion of the parcel contains a water-well easement for adjacent neighbors; staff negotiated an arrangement conveying that portion to neighbors while securing a right of first refusal for the airport and a modest sales-price reduction.
The property was appraised and staff cited a fair-market value adjusted to $460,000. Shultz said the earlier agenda removal in December was due to a title/encumbrance issue that required pausing the acquisition process; staff has since worked the issue and resumed the process.
Committee members asked clarifying questions; staff offered to provide further details. The transcript records the presentation but does not show a recorded vote or final committee action on the resolution in the public session.
