Peachtree City adopts hazard mitigation plan formalizing county coordination

Peachtree City Mayor Kim Learnard said the City Council adopted a hazard mitigation plan during its March 5 work session that formalizes the city’s agreement with the county and other agencies on emergency management.

"We adopted a hazard mitigation plan that formalizes our agreement with the county and other agencies in our community as to emergency management, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery," Mayor Kim Learnard said, adding that the plan includes protocols, communications and strategies for disaster prevention and preparedness.

The mayor said the plan is reviewed and updated every five years and that staff from the county hazard mitigation committee worked with Peachtree City personnel on the document. The adoption, as described in the work session, is intended to align local practices with broader regional emergency-management efforts and to set out clear roles for prevention, response and recovery.

The city did not provide the vote tally or motion text for the adoption in the work session remarks. Mayor Learnard characterized the change as an affirmative step toward disaster readiness and said updates will continue on a five-year cycle.
