Triton board approves hires, Chromebook purchase and transportation handbook updates

The Triton School Corporation board unanimously approved several operational items during the same meeting at which it held a bond hearing.

Personnel: The board approved the recommended 2025–26 spring coaches and accepted hires for two support positions: Relle Meister as a substitute custodian and Cynthia Ster as a substitute teacher. Motions to approve those hires were moved and seconded and passed on voice votes recorded as 5-0.

Technology: Administration recommended awarding the Chromebook purchase to Trafera for 165 devices at a cost of $55,935, citing warranty and vendor reliability as the reasons the quote was recommended over lower bids. The board approved the purchase by motion, second and a unanimous vote.

Transport and safety policies: The board approved updates to the transportation department driver handbook that include a recommendation to avoid using rear seats during extra-curricular trips when feasible for safety reasons, and clarified the triggers for drug and alcohol testing to align with corporation policy 4162 and an included flowchart. The administration described the change as aiming to reduce unnecessary testing in very minor incidents while preserving testing where serious crashes, citations, towings or deaths occur.

Surplus property: The board authorized selling items no longer useful to the corporation at the FFA consignment auction on April 11. Items discussed for the auction included damaged bleachers (to be sold by the piece), damaged fencing and some file cabinets.
