At a special meeting on May 13, 2026, the council introduced five ordinances related to the town's operating budgets: Ordinance 26-11 (an amendment to the operating budget for fiscal year 2025-26), Ordinance 26-12 (establishing the FY26-27 general fund operating budget), Ordinance 26-13 (establishing the FY26-27 sewer fund budget), Ordinance 26-14 (establishing the FY26-27 water fund budget) and Ordinance 26-15 (establishing the FY26-27 Cumberland Recreation Fund budget).
The council chair also announced that the finance subcommittee will meet on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers, that the first public hearing on the proposed budgets will be on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Joseph L. McCourt Middle School (45 Highland Avenue), and that a second public hearing and vote will take place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Cumberland Town Hall, with a final vote scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers.
No budget ordinance received a final vote at the special meeting. The only formal action recorded was a procedural motion to adjourn that carried 6-0: the motion to adjourn (moved by Shaw and Sweet; seconded by Bolio) passed at 6:42 p.m.
Residents who spoke during the public-comment period urged the council to consider pest control and public-health follow-up as part of the budget process. Councilors and staff will have the opportunity to hear those requests during the scheduled subcommittee meeting and public hearings.
