Mayor Rose introduced Matt Mley as Gilroy's new city administrator and described Mley's long ties to the community and prior municipal experience.
Mley, who the mayor said "lived in Gilroy for almost 50 years," told the council he was "completely honored to be here and work with you all," calling service in his hometown "an honor and a privilege." The mayor noted Mley previously served as a city administrator in Saratoga and worked in San Jose and public works, experience officials said they expect will help implement the council's priorities.
The introduction came at the start of a broadly attended public meeting that included a mayoral "spotlight" on code enforcement and an extended public-comment period. Mayor Rose and others framed Mley's hiring as part of an effort to improve delivery on priorities such as code enforcement, economic development and traffic safety.
Mley will participate in ongoing staff work on those matters, the mayor said; no formal vote or contract details were discussed on the record at this meeting.
