Commission approves special exception for Infinity Health Community Clinic on State Road 7

The Lauderhill City Commission on March 9 approved a special‑exception application allowing Infinity Health Community Clinic to operate a medical office at 2331 North State Road 7 that includes a practitioner authorized to prescribe controlled substances.

Planning staff explained the site is a 757‑square‑foot unit in a commercial condominium complex (Sunrise Professional Center). Staff found the application met the city’s standards for special-exception approval and recommended granting the use. Dr. Thamar Maurice, the applicant and primary practitioner, described services the clinic will provide: primary care, mental‑health services, vaccinations and diagnostic testing. She said she is a licensed nurse practitioner who will prescribe mental‑health medications (levels II–V) as authorized by state licensing and DEA rules.

Commissioners asked about safety and building management; Commissioner Ray Martin asked whether the landlord and condo association were addressing reports of people staying in stairwells and other safety concerns. Deputy Chief Kevin Granville said patrol checks were being reinforced and staff would follow up. A resident who identified himself as an attorney urged the commission to ensure the record addressed compatibility and public‑safety mitigation; staff and police said they would follow up. The commission approved the special exception 5–0.

The application record indicates notice requirements were met (posting, mailed notices within 500 feet, and newspaper advertisement). Staff said the practitioner has a clean disciplinary record with the Florida Board of Medicine.
