The Evanston Referrals Committee on March 9 unanimously referred a proposed farmers market ordinance to the city’s Parks and Recreation Board and recommended the board schedule a hearing by the end of April.
Council member Suffford moved the referral, saying, "I move that we send this to the parks and rec board in April. It's consistent with a conversation I had with Director Thompson earlier today." Council member Nusma seconded the motion. The committee voted in favor; the presiding officer announced the motion carried and the item was referred to the Parks and Recreation Board.
The ordinance appears on row 60 of the committee’s referrals tracker. Committee members did not debate the ordinance at length during the referrals meeting; the action before the committee was to set the next step in the process by sending the matter to the Parks and Recreation Board for consideration.
Earlier in the meeting the committee approved the minutes from its Feb. 9, 2026 meeting by unanimous voice vote. With no further business, the committee adjourned.
Next steps: the Parks and Recreation Board will receive the referral and, per the committee's recommendation, is expected to place the item on its agenda for a hearing by the end of April.
