ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Senate on April 9 gave final passage to House File 3556, renaming the Minnesota Community Solar Garden Program as the Melissa Hortman Community Solar Garden Program.
Sen. Hoffman, presenting the bill, said Melissa Hortman “was instrumental” in launching the community solar program and led the House Energy Committee during its creation; he described the renaming as a tribute to her leadership and the program’s contribution to expanding renewable energy in Minnesota. “It’s a good bill,” he said, and urged colleagues to “vote green.”
Sen. Marty briefly urged support as well, calling the renaming “a fitting way to pay tribute.” The Secretary recorded 59 yeas and 7 nays on final passage; the bill passed and its title was agreed to.
The measure honors a former House leader and the law’s sponsors characterized it as recognition of leadership in the state’s community solar program.
